A Chandler man convicted of murder in the 2010 beheading of a man in a Chandler apartment was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Crisantos Moroyoqui-Yocupicio, 39, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in March and was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Joseph Kreamer of Maricopa County Superior Court.

Moroyoqui-Yupicio, an undocumented immigrant, was accused of beheading 38-year-old Martin Alejandro Cota-Monroy, who authorities say had stolen drugs from a Mexican drug cartel.

Moroyoqui-Yocupicio faced a punishment ranging from 10 to 16 years in prison.
Authorities believe the killing was intended to send a message that anyone who betrays the traffickers will get the same treatment. The case has been cited as an extreme example of Mexican cartel violence spilling over the border.

On the night of October 10, 2010, police officers responded to a gruesome scene at an apartment in the Phoenix, Arizona, suburb of Chandler. The cops found the decapitated body of 38-year-old Alejandro Cota-Monroy. He was the first isolated case of Mexican cartel violence spilling over the U.S. border.

Last week, Crisantos Moroyoqui-Yocupio pleaded no contest to participating in the murder of Cota-Monroy, a suspected mid-level member of the Beltran-Leyva drug trafficking organization who allegedly stole drugs from a gang aligned with the Sinaloa Cartel. Three other suspects who fled to Mexico remain at large.

According to police in Phoenix, the beheading was intended to send a message about what happens to people who try to get over on the cartel. Mexico is used to the macabre killings. Headless bodies have been dangled from bridges by their feet; severed heads have been sent to victims’ family members and government officials; and bags of heads have been dropped off in high-profile locations.

Arizona has long been a hub for human traffickers and dope smugglers. Forty-four percent of all marijuana seizures near the nation’s borders were made in the Border Patrol’s Tucson sector from October 2011 through September 2012. According to the homicide report, citing border patrol intel, Cota-Monroy had stolen 400 pounds of marijuana and some meth from the PEI-Estatales/El Chapo drug trafficking organization. Cota-Monroy told the cartel that the Border Patrol had seized the drugs, but the cartel learned the truth and hired men to kidnap and kill him in Nogales, Mexico.

But Cota-Monroy had a silver tongue. He convinced his captors that he’d pay back the money and used his house as collateral, the report states. But he was lying. The house wasn’t his. Cota-Monroy fled to the Phoenix area, leading the cartel to hire assassins to go to Arizona, befriend the thief and kill him. >>MORE<<

Inside the KKK: New documentary shows how the hate group known for white hoods and cross burnings is still alive and well in the deep South:

A new documentary is lifting the lid on the notorious Ku Klux Klan as tensions surrounding the notorious hate group continue to simmer in Tennessee.

In March, about 75 members of the Ku Klux Klan wearing hoods and carrying banners with crosses descended on downtown Memphis to protest the renaming of Nathan Bedford Forrest Park.

A month earlier, the Memphis City Council voted to change the name of the park honoring the controversial Confederate general and one-time slave trader who went on to became the first Grand Wizard of the KKK.

The move had sparked an outrage among members and supporters of the extremist hate group, who decided to stage a protest against the council's renaming decision.

Journalists from VICE magazine traveled to Memphis in March and spent time interviewing clansmen as they were preparing for the rally.

VICE ended up producing a three-part documentary called Triple Hate about racism in America, along with a long feature that appears in this month's issue of the magazine.

The documentary revolves around the rally that was staged on March 30 in downtown Memphis.

Klan members dressed in robes were bused to and from the protest and were relegated to a fenced-in section in front of the Shelby County courthouse. Some wore pointed white hoods and waved flags with the letters KKK on them.

Police said an anti-Klan rally located in another fenced-in area about 100 yards away attracted 1,275 people throughout the day. Some chanted ‘KKK, go away.’

The rally was peaceful, with no injuries or property damage and only one arrest for disorderly conduct, Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said.

A North Carolina-based faction of the Klan came to protest after the City Council voted to rename Nathan Bedford Forrest Park, Jefferson Davis Park and Confederate Park.

Lt General Nathan Bedford Forrest has long been a polarizing figure in the South. While some people celebrate him as a Civil War hero who sought to uphold the region's independence, others count him among the most reviled racists in American history.

Besides his role as the first leader of the KKK, Forrest is perhaps best known for ordering his troops to massacre hundreds of African American Union soldiers who surrendered after the Battle of Fort Pillow in 1864.

Following the rally in Memphis at the end of March, the VICE filmmakers traveled with a white supremacist group called the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan to attend a cross burning ceremony held in the woods of Mississippi.

'Anybody who doesn’t; think the KKK is alive and well today in America , I encourage you to go to the woods of Mississippi and see for yourself,' said VICE reporter Rocco Castoro while standing in a circle of hooded men gathered around a flaming cross.

'White power!' the clansmen could be heard yelling while giving the Nazi salute.

Ahead of the pro-Forrest demonstration in Memphis, the VICE crew filmed a small rally held by a clan offshoot in the town of Tishomingo, Mississippi.

The main speaker, a KKK leader dressed in a red robe, a matching hood propped on his head and mirrored aviator glasses, vowed to 'stand tall' for Nathan Bedford Forrest before going on a tangent against the NAACP and 'bohemian' music.

'If it weren't for the white man fighting for you, you'd still be picking cotton in the field,' the speaker hollered into the loudspeaker, with a small crowd of spectators, among them African Americans, watching across the street.

The reporters also got a chance to attend a backyard barbecue hosted by the Mississippi clansmen and their families, some of whom were eager to share their views on race relations and the park renaming decision.

‘I'm tired of all of the blacks and all of the Mexicans [who] think that they own America,' said clansman Michael Clayton.

When asked about the vote to rechristen the Memphis park named after the infamous general and KKK leader, Clayton said: ‘I think that it's just a bunch of… blacks that want to take all the white people's history away from them.’

In a particularly chilling moment in the film, uniformed members of the Mississippi hate group are shown preparing for a cross illumination ceremony in the woods when one of the men says: ‘Tonight, boys, we're gonna kill us some Negroes,' drawing laughter from the others.

For those of you who did not know it before Leonard Nimoy or Mr. Spock of Star Trek is a Jew. The Jews are everywhere and unless one looks beyond the photos and faces in the television, movies, entertainment, and media you will not know just how widespread their influence and tentacles are into everything. I will not post a list of the “openly hidden” Jews but will leave you with this. The 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s (up to 1970’s) movie actor Edward G. Robinson (Emanuel Goldenberg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_G._Robinson ) that some of the older readers may have heard of is a Jew so you can see they were even involved in a time when one may think that whites were in control but they had their hands into everything and even much earlier. I once worked with a guy many years ago who was the epitome of the Aryan race being athletic, blond, blue eyed and of German decent. We got to talking one day about the Jews and Adolf Hitler and he started talking about the poor Jews in the Holocaust and lo and behold it turned out he was 100% Jew and proud of it so you never can tell by looks who is a Jew. The American Civil War began less than a decade after the first white pioneer settlers came to the Duwamish River Valley and formed Washington Territory. It may appear the war did not have any serious influence on the residents of this then remote area as most settlers were recovering from the Indian conflicts. Several men who served major roles for both the Union and Confederate Armies had been in Washington Territory. Some of the names that are recognizable are Ulysses Grant, George B. McClellan and George Pickett and all of served military assignments in the territory prior to the War. In the 1850s, U.S. Congress approved funding to build a military road from Fort Vancouver to Fort Bellingham.

The army troops worked with local pioneers to help survey the route that ran along the ridgelines on high ground and away from flooding rivers. An example of the type of route taken is being used today and is still known as Military Road which can be driven in one stretch from as far south as Milton and ending in Tukwila. The original road from Seattle to Fort Steilacoom was completed in 1860, the same year Abraham Lincoln was elected president.

Ulysses Grant was assigned in 1852 to Fort Vancouver, Oregon Territory, as quartermaster for the 4th Infantry Regiment. He noted in his journal the Native Americans were “harmless” and they would be peaceful had their homeland not been homesteaded by the white settlers. He also commented how the Klickitat tribe had been once powerful but was negatively impacted by a Smallpox outbreak. Grant resigned his commission from the Army in July 1854 and later accepted the request to return to the Army where he became Commander General of the Union Army with the outbreak of the Civil War. more

But before he became President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, Davis had had a long career of public service to the United States as a West Point graduate and Army officer, Congressman, Senator, Secretary of War and closest adviser to President Franklin Pierce. Matters concerning the Pacific Northwest commanded his close attention.
As an ardent expansionist, Jefferson Davis was a great supporter of creating a continental nation. From the time he entered Congress in 1845, through his final term in the Senate as Chairman of Military Affairs, he sponsored numerous bills and secured appropriations to promote American settlement of the West. In the 1840s, many in government discounted the value of the remote Oregon Country. Yet, in his first congressional speech, Davis addressed the boundary dispute with Great Britain, calling for the U.S. to assert its claims to the region. Expanding the Army presence along the Oregon Trail and throughout the Northwest, as well as sponsoring numerous surveys, topographical expeditions and scientific studies were among his top priorities.Advocating the initiation and expansion of mail service as well as securing pay increases for soldiers serving in the “Pacific possessions” were also among his efforts.

Jefferson Davis’ most enduring legacy to the Northwest may be his patronage of numerous engineering projects, among them the Pacific railroad surveys. more

Safety for refugees in Tukwila

Tukwila, a suburb of Seattle is a hub of refugee resettlement in that metropolitan area. Safety for refugees is a major issue. An article in The Seattle Times discusses these issues, although only speaks to refugees who feel safe in the city. Perhaps all of those who didn’t feel safe moved out.

A case worker, who lived in Tukwila and knew an apartment manager there, suggested they look south.

Borka Markovic’-Paponjak was living in a refugee camp when the IRC relocated her and her family from Bosnia to Tukwila in April 2007.

“Tukwila was a scary place then,” she says. “There was prostitution, drug dealing, gang fights. Ten days after we arrived, a guy was killed in front of the coffee shop for 20 bucks.”

But Markovic’-Paponjak and her husband both got jobs. The kids thrived at school, and the other Bosnians in the complex formed a tight bond, watching after each other’s children and holding summertime pool parties.

“Now, I don’t have a speck of fear in me,” says Markovic’-Paponjak, who these days owns a home here and helps other refugees at the IRC. “Tukwila is warmer, nicer, willing to help,” she says. “

Each year, about 500 refugees are placed in Tukwila. Once on their feet, many move on, and their foods disappear from the Trading Post’s shelves… more
