Stoning emphasized in new Islamic Punishment law, but who are we to cast a stone when other religions do and did the same?

Stoning, or lapidation, is a form of capital punishment whereby a group throws stones at a person until death ensues. No individual among the group can be identified as the one who kills the subject, yet everyone involved plainly bears some degree of moral culpability. This is in contrast to the case of a judicial executioner. Slower than other forms of execution, stoning is a form of execution by torture.

When did Jews stop stoning people to death liketheir god commands them to do?
Christians say they don’t stone people to death anymore despite clear commandments from their god to do so because they claim those are old Jew laws. So what excuse do Jews use for disobeying their god by not stoning people to death for working on the Sabbath, eating shellfish, wearing clothing made from different fibers etc?

Stoning in Scripture
Palestine being a very rocky country, the abundance of stones made itnatural to use them as missiles. Stone throwing might be merely a mark of hatred and contempt (2 Samuel 16:6-13), or the means of carrying out murderous intentions against which provision had to be made in theLaw (Exodus 21:18, Numbers 35:17). Stoning to death which was at first an expression of popular fury analogous to “lynching”, later came to be a natural and legally recognized method of execution. It was this regulated by law as an appointed means of capital punishment(Deuteronomy 17:5-7; Acts 7:58). Death by stoning is prescribed in thePentateuch as the penalty for eighteen different crimes includingSabbath-breaking, but for one crime only — murder — is it the penaltyprescribed in all the codes. The execution of the criminal usually took place outside the city walls, and according to Deuteronomy 17:7, thewitnesses in the case were to cast the first stone: “Thou shalt bring forth the man or the woman, who have committed that most wickedthing, to the gates of thy city, and they shall be stoned. By the mouth of two or three witnesses shall he die who is to be slain…. The hands of thewitnesses shall be first upon him to kill him, and afterwards the hands of the rest of the people”. (Deuteronomy 17:5-7). Stoning is also mentioned in Acts 7:57-58, as the means by which Stephen the firstChristian martyr was put to death: “And casting him forth without the city, they stoned him.”

Everyone knows that the Islamic Republic of Iran is “extremist,” but in fact, in Islamic terms stoning is not “extremist”; it is Islamic law for adulterous women. The caliph Umar, one of Muhammad’s closest companions, even maintained that it was originally in the Qur’an:

‘Umar said, “I am afraid that after a long time has passed, people may say, “We do not find the Verses of the Rajam (stoning to death) in the Holy Book,” and consequently they may go astray by leaving an obligation that Allah has revealed. Lo! I confirm that the penalty of Rajam be inflicted on him who commits illegal sexual intercourse, if he is already married and the crime is proved by witnesses or pregnancy or confession.” Sufyan added, “I have memorized this narration in this way.” ‘Umar added, “Surely Allah’s Apostle carried out the penalty of Rajam, and so did we after him.” (Bukhari, vol. 8, bk. 82, no. 816)

“Allah’s Apostle” is, of course, Muhammad, who did indeed carry out stonings. Here is the hadith in which he challenges the rabbis about stoning, and in which there is amidst the barbarism and brutality a final act of love and compassion:
The Jews came to Allah’s Apostle and told him that a man and a woman from amongst them had committed illegal sexual intercourse. Allah’s Apostle said to them, “What do you find in the Torah (old Testament) about the legal punishment of Ar-Rajm (stoning)?” They replied, (But) we announce their crime and lash them.” Abdullah bin Salam said, “You are telling a lie; Torah contains the order of Rajm.” They brought and opened the Torah and one of them solaced his hand on the Verse of Rajm and read the verses preceding and following it. Abdullah bin Salam said to him, “Lift your hand.” When he lifted his hand, the Verse of Rajm was written there. They said, “Muhammad has told the truth; the Torah has the Verse of Rajm. The Prophet then gave the order that both of them should be stoned to death. (‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said, “I saw the man leaning over the woman to shelter her from the stones.” (Bukhari, vol. 4, bk. 56, no. 829)

Even the monkeys practiced stoning, according to another hadith:
During the pre-lslamic period of ignorance I saw a she-monkey surrounded by a number of monkeys. They were all stoning it, because it had committed illegal sexual intercourse. I too, stoned it along with them. (Bukhari, vol. 5, bk. 58, no. 188) >>>more<<<

Which of the three religions, Christianity, Judaism or Al-Islam prescribes stoning for adultery?

This matter is rather simple. Let’s take a look at what the Old Testament, New Testament and the Quran says about the punishment for adultery. Without interpretation or interpolation let’s just look at what each book prescribes. Then after doing so let’s ask the question which book are those who stone to death really following?

President Obama will NEVER be impeached

Mainstream conservatives must know ? with zero equivocation ? that Obama’s impeachment is off the table. For those in the media unable to decipher that, spell it out for them and leave no wiggle room.

President Obama will not be impeached.

Is President Obama a failed leader? Absolutely.

Is he lazy? Of course.

Is he corrupt? Brazenly.

Is he a bully who abuses his power? Most definitely.

Has he lied about everything from the effects of his signature policies to scandals more serious than those of Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon combined? With zero doubt.

Should he be impeached?

Absolutely!!

Republicans had better learn from the 1998 Clinton impeachment hearings. Bill and Hillary Clinton were caught up in numerous scandals stretching from their Arkansas days to long after they entered the White House. There was Whitewater, the Travel Office, FBI file abuses, the Waco siege, questionable commodities trades, and of course numerous “bimbo eruptions” culminating in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Bill Clinton lied under oath in a deposition.

The left responded by going into overdrive against a mythical, “vast right-wing conspiracy.” The vast left-wing conspiracy was very real, and everybody from Linda Tripp to Judge Kenneth Starr was viciously attacked. Tripp was a whistleblower who was punished for speaking out. Starr was a respected judge with integrity beyond reproach. The left did not care.

The left needed and tolerated the Clintons, but they worship Barack Obama. To paraphrase Mary J. Blige, Obama is everything, and everything is him. He is pro-choice on abortion, supports gay marriage, and believes in global warming. He is also the first partially black President. He is not going anywhere.

Former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards famously said that the only way he could lose an election was to be caught in bed with either a “dead girl or a live boy.” Barack Obama is much more popular and has more ruthless defenders.

As a supporter of the 1998 impeachment and a believer in the rule of law, there comes a time to admit that many leftists are above the law. Instead of gaining seats in those midterm elections, Republicans lost seats. House Speaker Newt Gingrich resigned in the wake of his own infidelities, as did his likely successor Bob Livingston.

Do Republicans really think Barack Obama, Jon Corzine, or any other powerful progressives are ever going to be held accountable for their misdeeds? That is not the way the world works. The liberal media rigs the game, and that is part of life.

The news is not all bad for conservatives. Far from it. By 2000, “Clinton fatigue” had set upon the nation. That brought down Al Gore, who should have won his election by twenty points or at least coasted to a win like George Herbert Walker Bush did.

The long-term goal is not to remove Obama. It is to obliterate the Democrats and eradicate every trace of liberalism. The goal is to return Democrats to their status of the 1980s, where they had to meet in secret rooms just to admit they were liberals. The goal is to associate liberalism with complete and total failure, so that every Democrat running for election spends time on the defensive just fending accusations of liberalism.

The recent South Carolina congressional special election is a perfect example. Republican Mark Sanford had his flaws, but he followed the 2010 Republican playbook to victory. Rather than link his opponent to the strongest and most liked Democratic leader, Obama, he welded her to the weakest and most reviled one. He hung Nancy Pelosi around his opponent’s neck and reduced her to a San Francisco Pelosicrat.

2014 should be about the Obama-Pelosi reign of error. Everything they have done has failed. Pelosi should be in every campaign commercial.

Some conservatives will demand that the truth is what matters most. Wrong. Winning elections and governing is the only way to advance a conservative agenda. Election losers get nothing but their name etched somewhere in the middle of a giant ash heap of history.

Elections are popularity contests. Obama is likable. Conservatives may loathe him, but the American people do not. 2014 should be about Pelosi. 2016 can then be around a successor that is either incredibly disliked (Hillary Clinton), seen as a bumbler (Joe Biden), or some boring white guy nobody cares about (whoever currently governs Maryland). By then, voters will have Obama fatigue.

Life is not fair, and sometimes there is no justice. Sometimes bad things happen to good people and bad guys get away with murder. Obama got away with two separate scandals where people were murdered, and glided to reelection.

Trying to remove him will create the well of sympathy that will allow him to rebound. Leaving him in office will allow him to be an albatross around the entire Democratic Party’s neck.

Besides, if conservatives thought it was fun watching Al Gore try to escape Bill Clinton’s misdeeds, imagine the joy of seeing Hillary Clinton skewered over Barack Obama’s failures before being skewered over her own.

Jimmy Carter was never impeached, but he was almost universally regarded as a failure. Even with two terms, Barack Obama will face the same fate as long as conservatives get out of their own way and learn from their past mistakes.

Forget impeaching or indicting Obama. The bigger indictment will be the indictment of everything that is liberalism, personified by Obama liberalism.

Pew Research Center: Voter Turnout 2012 & Blacks Lied?

Skepticism About the Census Voter Turnout Finding:

The Census Bureau made big news last week when it reported that the black voter turnout rate (66.2%) exceeded the white voter turnout rate (64.1%) for the first time ever in 2012. But a closer look at the numbers raises some intriguing questions.

It’s possible that the lines may have first crossed in 2008. But it’s also possible they may not have crossed at all.

Let’s start with the second scenario. It’s based on data that suggest that last year; blacks may have been more inclined than whites to report that they voted when in fact they didn’t. This is known as a “social desirability bias,” a familiar concern among survey researchers.

The Census Bureau bases their estimate of voter turnout on self-reports from a survey of a nationally representative sample of about 55,000 households. The survey is conducted in the two weeks after each federal election and is considered the best source of information on the demographics of the nation’s electorate. However, this self-report method typically produces a modest over-estimate of turnout, and 2012 was no exception. According to the Census Bureau’s estimates, 133 million Americans voted last year, but according to the official state-by-state tallies, just 129 million did.

Moreover, if you analyze the discrepancies by state, as the Pew Research Center has (download our Election Turnout Rates by State data in Excel), you find a pattern that casts some doubt on the Census Bureau’s announcement. It turns out that the phenomenon of over reporting tended to be most pronounced in states that have the highest share of blacks in their citizen-age electorate.

As the chart below shows, Mississippi and Washington, D.C., were the two jurisdictions with the largest gap between the estimated and official total voter turnout rates. In Mississippi, the Census Bureau estimated a statewide turnout rate of 74.5%, while the actual state tallies showed a turnout rate of 60.4%—a gap of 14.1 percentage points. In Washington, the Census Bureau estimated a jurisdiction wide turnout rate of 75.9%, compared with an actual turnout rate of 63.7%—a gap of 12.2 percentage points. The Census Bureau’s estimates also place Mississippi and the District of Columbia ahead of any other state’s voter turnout rate in 2012, even the usual top dog Minnesota, whose officials raised questions about the Census Bureau’s results.

Over-reporting the Vote

Mississippi and Washington also happen to be the two jurisdictions in the country with the highest share of blacks in their voting age citizen eligible population—35% and 49%,1 respectively. As the scatter plot chart of voter turnout rates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia shows, respondents in other states with high black population shares—such as South Carolina, Louisiana and Georgia—also over-reported their turnout rates in 2012 at levels well above the nationwide gap of 1.8 percentage points.

Might this be because non-voting blacks were more eager than non-voting whites to tell survey takers that they voted for the first ever African-American president? While there’s no way of knowing for sure, the data are suggestive. When we plotted the state discrepancies in 2008 and 2004, we found a similar pattern, but we also found the racial skew was stronger in 2008 and 2012, the two elections in which Obama was on the ballot, than in 2004.

To better understand these patterns, we computed a “correlation coefficient,” which measures the relationship between two phenomena of interest—in this case, the over reporting of turnout in a state (the difference between the estimated and official voter turnout rates) and the share of a state’s adult population that is black. Our analysis finds a positive correlation of .52 (on a scale of -1 to 1) in 2012, .54 in 2008 and .41 in 2004. If we remove the two biggest outliers in the scatter plot analysis—Mississippi and Washington—the overall correlation remains positive, but it is only about half as large.

It’s also important to note that some states with small black populations over-reported, while a few states with large black populations under-reported. For example, the Census Bureau estimated that New Mexico’s voter turnout rate was 61.6%, compared with the official tally of 55%. New Mexico has a small share of blacks (2.7%) in its voting eligible population. On the other hand, the Census Bureau findings from Maryland, which has an age-eligible electorate that is 29% black, suggest that respondents under-reported their turnout by 2.5 percentage points.

Finally, it is also worth noting that just because voting was more widely over-reported in states with higher African-American populations, there is no way of knowing if blacks or non-blacks were more likely to over-report. This correlation is intriguing, but not definitive. In addition, one should keep in mind that the Census Bureau’s findings from individual states are subject to margins of error that may account for some of the apparent discrepancies in estimated and actual turnout rates.

Bottom line: This analysis doesn’t prove the Census Bureau’s finding is wrong. Nor does it negate the long-term turnout trends, which show that black turnout has been rising since 1996. It may, however, merit an asterisk alongside the claim that blacks turned out at a higher rate than whites in 2012.

But wait, what about the first scenario—the possibility that this milestone actually occurred in 2008, not 2012?

That assessment is based an analysis that removes from the pool of eligible voters all adults who have been disenfranchised as a result of felony convictions, something the Census Bureau does not (and cannot) do. According to the Sentencing Project, an advocacy group, nearly 6 million adults are ineligible to vote for that reason, a disproportionate share of who are black. If you recalculate turnout rates after removing those disenfranchised voters, then 68.5% of eligible blacks voted in 2008, compared with 67% of eligible whites, according to Bernard L. Fraga, a political scientist studying at Harvard. The Census Bureau, by contrast, had 66.1% of whites voting that year, compared with 64.7% of blacks.

So pick your data source and write your own history.

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." This is about homosexuality. People say a lot online that there is nothing in the bible about being gay and that it isn't right. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure, or can comment. Thanks.

The same jury that deemed George Thomas criminally responsible for the January 2007 slayings of a Knox County couple today will return to decide his fate.

The seven-woman, five-man jury from Hamilton County took less than seven hours to return a sweeping set of guilty verdicts Tuesday against Thomas for the litany of crimes committed against Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.

Those convictions included first-degree murder, felony murder, robbery, kidnapping and rape.

Thomas, 26, showed no reaction to the 38 guilty verdicts. His defenders, Tom Dillard and Steve Johnson, left the courtroom without comment as the families of the slain couple hugged law enforcers, including lead Knoxville Police Department Investigator Todd Childress, and prosecutors Leland Price and Takisha Fitzgerald.

The defenders for a torture-slaying suspect facing a second trial on the same set of facts are looking to hindsight to give them a crystal clear vision for what should be kept out this go-round.

Defense attorneys Tom Dillard and Stephen Ross Johnson have filed motions in Knox County Criminal Court seeking to bar Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic-Polchan from testifying and to prohibit prosecutors Leland Price and TaKisha Fitzgerald from making the same arguments used in the first trial of slaying suspect George Thomas.

Thomas was tried in December 2009 for the January 2007 kidnapping, rape and slayings of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23. A jury whose members hailed from Hamilton County convicted him as a principal player in the crimes but rejected death as punishment.

Two years later, the judge who presided over that trial — Richard Baumgartner — became mired in his own criminal woes involving an addiction to opiate painkillers and a state court conviction of official misconduct for buying pills from a felon on probation in his court. Last year, a federal jury found him guilty of lying about the drug trafficking of his mistress, a graduate of the Drug Court program that he helped found. Malcolm X's Grandson Dies in Bar Fight

The grandson of US political activist Malcolm X has died in Mexico City following a fight in a bar, say Mexican officials.

Malcolm Shabazz, 29, succumbed in hospital to multiple injuries he suffered on Thursday.

Mexico's attorney general's office said an investigation into the incident was under way.

The US state department said that it was in contact with the family and offering appropriate assistance.

Shabazz was discovered with fatal wounds at Plaza Garibaldi, a popular tourist area packed with bars and restaurants, in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.

Miguel Suarez, a union activist who was travelling with Shabazz, said they had been in the country as part of their efforts to advocate more rights for Mexican construction workers in the US.

'Blunt-force injuries'

Mr Suarez said he and Shabazz were invited to a bar on Wednesday night by a woman.

The bar owner later demanded they pay $1,200 (£780) for drinks and female companionship, according to Mr Suarez.

He said that he escaped as a fight broke out, before returning to find Shabazz seriously injured on the ground outside the bar.

Mr Suarez said he took Shabazz to a hospital where he died of "blunt-force injuries".

Shabazz was the son of one of Malcolm X's six daughters, Qubilah Shabazz.

When he was 12, he was involved in a fire that killed his grandmother Betty Shabazz, the widow of Malcolm X.

He was convicted of manslaughter and arson and sentenced to time in a juvenile detention centre.

Malcolm X, a black power activist and prominent figure in the militant Nation of Islam movement, was shot dead at a political rally in New York on 21 February 1965.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The plan for a Holocaust memorial at the Ohio Statehouse took a big step forward last week when the Artist Selection Committee chose a proposal by Daniel Libeskind, the world-renown architect who designed the Jewish Museum in Berlin and the master plan for the World Trade Center site in New York.

But the Statehouse plan may have taken two steps back, too.

Former Ohio Sen. Richard Finan, now chairman of the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and a skeptic of the project from the beginning, once again raised objections. This time Finan expressed concerns about Libeskind’s design, particularly its use of the six-sided Star of David, the symbol of Judaism.

Finan, who served as president of the Senate from 1997 to 2003, says he’ll bring those concerns to two other committees before they take final votes at meetings scheduled for May and July.

“I think that the Star of David is a religious symbol and religious symbols, we have been told on several occasions, are not permissible on Statehouse grounds,” Finan said in a telephone interview last week.

The state, he points out, fought a years-long legal battle beginning in the late 1990s after then-Gov. George Voinovich proposed that the Ohio seal be engraved at the Statehouse. The seal includes the state motto: “With God, All Things Are Possible.”

The American Civil Liberties Union sued and the resulting legal action, Finan recalls, cost the state between $200,000 and $250,000. >>>MORE<<<

There are six cities in Ohio with a population of more than 100,000, but only one with more than half a million residents. The largest city in Ohio is Columbus, home to 787,033 people. The next largest city is Cleveland (pop: 396,815), followed by Cincinnati (pop: 296,943) and Toledo (pop: 287,208). The remaining cities with more than 100,000 residents are Akron (pop: 199,110) and Dayton (pop: 141,527).

Interestingly, the cities are wildly different when it comes to demographics. While Columbus is growing rapidly, at a rate of 10% every decade, Cleveland by comparison is losing people at an alarming rate. In 1950, more than 900,000 people lived in Cleveland, and it’s population is declining at a rate similar to decaying cities like Detroit.
