"Clayton County schools have lost accreditation. The 50,000-student school system is the first in the nation to lose accreditation since 1969, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools announced today.

The ruling confirms the worst fears of Clayton’s 271,000 residents.

Clayton County Commission Chairman Eldrin Bell, who was in the meeting at SACS headquarters in Decatur when the announcement came, confirmed the loss of accreditation.

“I’m disappointed. I think we still have a window of hope because there is an appeal process,” he said.

Bell said he summoned the committee of citizens who helped the school district when it was on probation five years ago."

Default Some background on this matter

As recently as 1990, Clayton County, Georgia, located just to the south and southwest of metro Atlanta, and home to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, was a thriving "bedroom" community, perhaps 85% white. Then MARTA*, or Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (* this also can stand for Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta) ran some bus lines into northern Clayton County. That was the impetus for boon families to start moving into the county, spreading like a vicious nasty cancer from the north end all the way to the south end by 2000.

The school system, which lost its accreditation today, was known throughout the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s and into the 90s as a truly remarkable school system. Schools and school facilities were first rate, sports programs were well funded and supported, arts programs (especially in music) were excellent and considered among the best in the country. Then around 1995, it was determined that the airport would start acquiring land for a new, fifth runway (which, now finished, impacts air travel across the entire country, in a roundabout sort of way) and this was an opportunity for land owners south of the airport to "hold out" for top dollar, eventually getting a buttload of money for cheap properties and land. This also pushed the small knot of 'groids out of their neighborhoods, moving southward. Clayton County has long been known for quality lifestyle and living, yet cheap affordable housing.

Well, as the boons migrated southward, the schools started falling, one by one. Test scores plummeted, music programs dried up, populations shifted from majority white to 50-50 and eventually to majority black. By 2000 most of Clayton County had turned black, and with that, came the election of new school boards in 2000 and 2002 that changed the board composition from white to black. Great teachers ran screaming from Clayton County into other counties. Student populations changed color. Not surprisingly, discipline records reflect that serious crimes on campuses escalated wildly during the period from about 2000 onward. It got to the point that every morning on the news, you could hear about yet another "shooting in Clayton County" or some "massive drug bust in Clayton County."

The all-groid board of schools could not function like normal human beings together. They bickered, they harrassed, they micromanaged, they argued, and things went down the tubes very very quickly. The thing is, they almost lost their accreditation once before since 2000! That was ample warning to get the ship in order before it sunk. Did they??? Why no!!!! It got worse.

One of the most shocking elements of mismanagement was when they hired some boon to come in and change things around in hopes of warding off loss of accreditation. Did he? Why, no!!!!!! His first order of business was to order this past spring's high school diplomas destroyed because they had the previous superintendent's name on them, rather than his! $80,000 worth of printed diplomas, destroyed! Fortunately a printing company in the Atlanta area stepped in and offered to re-print the douments for free. But that's the mindset they were in out in Clayton County.

Do some research on this - Google it and dig into how this all happened. It absofuckinglutely boggles the mind. And it turns my stomach, because I am a product of this once noble school system from the 70s. I am now ashamed to say I went to school in Clayton County even though it was 30+ years ago."
