Nazi swastikas were spray painted on the doors of a Bensalem business Tuesday morning, the owner said.
The anti-Semitic symbols were painted on front and side doors as well as an electronic transformer at the Pak-It Displays manufacturing center on Adams Road.
The business's owner, Bruce Blatt, who is Jewish, said he had no idea whether the graffiti was a simple act of vandalism or meant as a hate crime.
“I don't know who is doing this or why they did it,” Blatt said. “I really can't come up with any reason why my business would be targeted.
“Of course it's upsetting. They're big enough that you would notice them,” he added. “But we'll have it removed in a day or two.”
Blatt has suffered from graffiti before, but the vandals never sprayed symbols of hate. The business operates out of a brick box building in the Bridgewater Industrial Complex.
Pak-It makes shelves and other display cases for retailers.
Bensalem police are investigating.
Two hate crimes were reported in Bensalem in 2007. One involved vandalism. The other was classified “anti-homosexual violence” by the Pennsylvania Unified Crime Reporting System. Three incidents also were reported in 2006 in the township.
Statewide, 119 hate crimes were reported in 2007. Another 41 hate crimes were reported in Pennsylvania between January and June of this year.
