So KFC Is Going to Africa
Posted April 21, 2013 by Mr Blade in News Links
As KFC Goes to Africa it Lacks Only One Thing: Chickens -

ACCRA, Ghana—To make American fried chicken daily fare in Africa, Ashok Mohinani wants to bring this West African country nearly two dozen KFCs over the next couple of years. First, he needs a chicken farm.

The plastics-mogul-turned-restaurateur opened four KFCs last year, two short of what he planned when he opened his first franchise in 2011. The problem: Ghana's chicken farmers aren't professional enough to satisfy the chain's requirements so Mr. Mohinani has been forced to import chicken. And Ghana's currency, the cedi, has been falling. That has increased import costs, driving menu prices higher—and customers away.

"With fast food, you can't keep raising prices," he said. "It's chicken."

Mr. Mohinani is confronting a dilemma faced by colleagues across the continent. In 2010 KFC owner Yum Brands Inc. said it planned to open 1,200 KFCs in Africa by 2014.

In Ghana, Mr. Mohinani ships in all his chicken. But in Nigeria, it is illegal to import chicken, so KFCs in that country recently added fish to the menu. Poultry imports are barred in Kenya, too. And because only one supplier, a British-Kenyan monopoly, is professional enough to meet Yum's requirements—such as keeping detailed records, laying rodent traps and refrigerating meat—the chain purchases chicken about $3 above market rates.

Yum didn't return requests for comment.

KFC's chicken hunt sounds a cautionary note to Western fast-food rivals seeking to expand in Africa.

The Subway sandwich chain, which is owned by Doctor's Associates Inc., has almost 30 restaurants on the continent and plans to open 20 in Kenya over the six next years, plus others in Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa. "The business environment in Africa for us has been relatively sluggish until recently," says Don Fertman, Subway's chief development officer. He says the company expects to see additional progress this year.

Domino's Pizza Inc. opened two restaurants in Nigeria last August, adding to its more than two dozen outlets in Egypt and Morocco, and says it is exploring opportunities to expand into Kenya and South Africa.

The reasons for expansion are clear: an emerging middle class on a continent where the total economy is set to grow at least 5% a year through 2017, according to the International Monetary Fund. The World Bank has estimated that food demand across Africa would double between 2012 and 2020.

But the continent's often small, bucket-irrigated farms will be hard pressed to feed its hungry consumers. "Growing demand for food in Africa is increasingly being met by imports," World Bank lead economist Paul Brenton wrote in a Jan. 8 report. "Clearly something has to change."

Mr. Mohinani sees Ghana as well-suited for KFC. A stable democracy has attracted foreign investment and enlivened the restaurant sector.

As wages rise, dining at restaurants is among the first luxuries for upwardly mobile consumers. Ghana consumes five times the chicken it did a decade ago, the Agricultural Ministry says.

Chicken farms remain small, however. That's a legacy of Operation Feed Yourself in the 1970s, when soldiers under the dictatorship of I.K. Acheampong forced civil servants to build backyard coops.

In the 1990s Ghana moved away from socialist dictatorship. Its government scrapped embargoes on poultry imports, making meat affordable but undermining domestic production. "That was the end of my broiler business," says chicken farmer Magdalen Khoury.

Ms. Khoury, the owner of Agdalen Farms Ghana Ltd., had tried to supply one of the handful of local fast-food rotisserie that sprung up as cheap foreign chicken poured in to the country. But since she couldn't deliver birds at a consistent weight, cost and quantity, she shifted her focus to eggs.

Kofi Appenteng wants to change all this. He is the financial adviser for Ghana's West Coast Foods Ltd., which is building a $25 million processing plant to meet pent-up demand for chicken.

It won't be easy. For starters, chicken feed also is imported, raising costs, because Ghana's cornfields have suffered from foreign competition. Chicks are flown in to the country, many hatched in cargo holds.

Also, West Africans favor tough, bony cuts that farmers abroad are happy to unload here a loss. "We prefer the dark meat, the gizzard. People eat the neck," Mr. Appenteng says. He plans to sell gizzards locally and ship unwanted boneless breasts abroad.

Eventually, he hopes, a farmer will amass the credit, know-how and clientele to build a farm high-tech enough to supply his plant—and from there, KFC.

Mr. Mohinani isn't optimistic that Ghana's farmers can get their henhouses in order.

Meanwhile, he is offsetting his high chicken costs by having his restaurants push shito, a local pepper-and-tomato hot sauce, instead of ketchup, which is imported.

That move hasn't been trouble-free, either. Shito is brewed in a nearby factory, where KFC had to install a metal detector "so that bits of metal don't fall into the food," Mr. Mohinani recalls. "It's going to be a long story."

GAY LAND MINES

DISCRIMINATORY LAND MINES UPSETS GAYS

After ten years of research into the science of pheromones, the scent that all land animals and insects secrete enabling them to find a mate, navigate in the dark or travel over long distances with incredible accuracy, Scent Science Corporation of Oak Ride Tennessee has finally isolated the long elusive "Gay Scent". The research was originally undertaken to market to manufacturers of gay perfume, a 100 million dollar a year industry, but when negotiations with potential buyers such as Estee Lauder and L'Oreal fell through over the asking price for the science, SSC turned it's attention to the world's militaries with the hope that some use could be found to recoup a decade of research and development costs. Now apparently they have finally found a buyer.

The People's Liberation Army of China.

Their apparent motive? "Saving Face". As explained to the magazine 'Science and Technology Today', Professor Wayne Snowden, head of the Asian Studies Department at Duke University and author of seventeen books was quoted in a recent interview, "'Saving Face' is deeply engrained in Asian culture but no more so than in the Chinese military. Being forced to fight an opponent that resorts to slapping and hair pulling is an insult to their masculinity. It is therefore no surprise that the Chinese are exploring ways to try to blow-up homosexuals before any battle occurs".

PLA land warfare systems Commissioner Scott Lee, explained the testing and development of the new "Gay Land Mine" to Retired Lt. Colonel Mindy Stokes, formerly the highest ranking out-lesbian in the U.S. military and columnist for the New York Times. "War is for MEN! Not for women who wish they were men, or for men who wish they were women. It is our hope that in future conflicts that we can blow-up all possible homosexuals before we engage in battle with the remaining worthy opponents".

Lee explained how the system works. "This mine, unlike previous mines, does not explode from the pressure of a soldier stepping on it, instead it has a built-in "Gay-Scent Sensor" and if it detects your gayness, it detonates. We have dropped the misidentification rate down to only one percent, so we think that those who were known not to be gay and were blown-up anyway were possibly thinking of becoming gay, thus secreting the "gay-scent" and setting off the explosive.

Stokes pressed Lee on field-testing and Lee was more than happy to explain how the "Gay Land Mine" was perfected. Said Lee, "The 'People's Fag Lesbian Army Group', or PFLAG, is a group of test subjects that were pulled from the ranks of the PLA after their gayness became known. PFLAG soldiers were mixed with condemned criminals and they were forced to walk slowly across "Gay Mine Fields" half a kilometer deep. We actually bet money on who would blow-up. A lot of money changed hands!" said Lee with a chuckle. "In the end it appears that we have perfected the device".

But now there are a number of groups who are condemning the Chinese not because the mine is inhumane, like the dumb dumb bullets of WW1, but rather because the mine discriminates against gay soldiers. Nichole Rihanek spokeswoman for the Pentagon's Office of Sexual Orientation released a short statement. "War should be an equal opportunity affair. All soldiers, straight and gay should have the right to get blown up together. The Chinese are not waging war fairly with their new anti-gay mine".

Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center has now tried to use his influence against the ICBL, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, a group that has been working for the last twenty years to demine the estimated ten million land mines buried worldwide. Said Dees, "All other mines should be secondary now, because these Chinese mines hate."

There are others in the American Military however that think differently. One Iraqi veteran who spoke on condition of anonymity said, "I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that all of the straight guys in my my former company at Camp Pendleton would LOVE to see these things buried ANYWHERE we go into combat. Now if they would just create an "Anti-Nigger Mine" things would be headed completely in the right direction.

It is believed that 100,000 AGM's have now been placed on China's Southern border to keep the Thai "Ladyboys" out.

LOCAL COMMISSIONER INVOLVED IN HOMOSEXUAL SCANDAL

Even some of Scott Lee's liberal friends are at this writing distancing themselves from him over the shocking allegations that Lee, a Clatsop County Commissioner, Chairman of the Lower Columbia Diversity Project as well as an SPLC contact for N.W Oregon, has been providing a safe house for closeted homosexuals to engage in homosexual acts. Lee himself is not gay but is well known for his radical views.

While all men involved in the scandal that are known to the police are of legal age as far as anyone knows, this reflects extremely poorly on the Clatsop County Commissioner's political office, located in the County seat of Astoria, Oregon, as well as to customers of his Bicycle Shop, called "Bicycle Paradise". At this writing there have been calls for his resignation from some voters over the scandal which Lee and his friends on the 'Diversity Project' view as "compassionate acts" for closeted homosexual men.

In a letter written to the local paper after the scandal broke, Lee explains how everything transpired. "I kept seeing solicitations for homosexual sex written in bathrooms across Astoria. I thought to myself that anyone writing this graffiti must not be 'out of the closet' gay men. And thinking of the potential for disease as well as the embarrassment this could possibly cause to men with local families, I decided, after consulting with my partner Jennifer, that we would provide a meeting place for these individuals until they were prepared to come out as gay men. I began writing replies in various bathroom stalls with my phone number, and before long men were meeting at our house with our permission. It was an act of compassion for these men and no laws were broken. Anyone that says otherwise is a hater and intolerant".

As one would expect, the constant flow of men in and out of his house on Evergreen and College St. aroused the suspicions of his elderly neighbors who eventually called the Astoria Police, who in turn began to watch the house regularly over the period of a month-long investigation, suspecting that drugs were being dealt out of the house. After logging one particularly busy day where nine pairs of men entered and left his residence, this was sufficient enough evidence for a Clatsop County Judge to issue a search warrant.

Last Saturday evening at 9:00 PM, after another pair in a long string of men were observed entering his residence, the Astoria Police along with Deputies from the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, kicked in the door of his home on Evergreen street and briefly cuffed and detained both Lee and his partner Jennifer Stokes. A search of the home revealed no drugs, paraphernalia or money, but when the basement was checked they found two men so engrossed in sex that they had not heard the commotion upstairs.

Both men were found to be of legal age, not in possesion of any illegal items, then questioned and released. Their names have been withheld. However, what was found in Lee's basement has been released in an eyebrow-raising preliminary report. The inventory includes piles of condoms, anal-lube, flavored lubricants, surgical gloves, baby wipes, disposable hand towels, assorted dildos, hand sanitizer, mouth wash and a red hazmat waste basket filled with numerous used items.

Commissioner Lee and Stokes were not arrested and are not expected to. Unless a witness comes forward, which is unlikely, stating that money changed hands, no laws appear to have been broken. "It is not a punishable offense in any U.S. State to allow people to use your home for homosexual liaisons, regardless of the number, as long as money is not exchanged", according to Clatsop County District Attorney Dick Shale.

Because of the scandal, Lee has actually received accolades from the local homosexual community as well as high-profile organizations such as GLAAD, PFLAG, GLSEN and NAMBLA, all of whom have stated that they will come to Astoria and riot if Lee is put on trial for his homosexual activism. Even his association with Alabama's Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) located in Montgomery appears not to be strained. While they are known to be aware of the ongoing troubles with Lee, he is still on their list of trusted informants for both their "Hate Watch" and "Intelligence Project" programs. Phone calls to both Mark Potok and Morris Dees, co-heads at the SPLC were not returned.

Aside from his letter to the local paper, Lee has not commented further and is still at his job as one of the Clatsop County Commissioners, Chairing his Diversity Project and running his bicycle shop. For his part in what is now being called the 'In the closet scandal' Lee has retained a lawyer in the event this goes to court.

Lee is up for reelection in 2014.

A DREAM I HAD
Posted September 13, 2012 by Swaz in Entertainment
Moslems get upset at almost anything. They rioted in Denmark over a cartoon of Muhammad's turban. Now a bad video on Youtube has the Middle-East in turmoil. Anyway, yah so I had this dream.

In the dream many Jewish Yashiva schools decide that they want to tell all the Moslems in their area how Muhammad was gay, and that it's okay to be gay, and to come join their big gay Jewish "Men's Night" and so on. So the children are given crayons to draw pictures of Muhammad with a big Moslem penis and some children even outline it with Elmer's glue and sprinkle glitter on it to make it all happy and "gay-looking". One extra-observant child even drew an arrow saying "Muhammad's penis", just so they would be sure to notice.

Then the loving Jewish children packed-up their box of cards and drawings and just to make sure the art wasn't damaged they handled them with surgical gloves and sealed the envelopes with sponges. Then all the mail showing Muhammad with his big gay glittering penis got mailed to various Mosques. Especially the ones who's preacher has an eyepatch or hookhand and yells a lot. And being polite they did not forget to write-down the address of their schools.

And then I woke up. I never did find-out in my dream if the nice Moslems liked the pictures of Muhammad with his big gay glittering penis sent to them by the nice Jewish kids, but perhaps I'll find-out in another dream.
