Club security guard killed, deputies search for suspects

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is requesting the community's assistance in locating a possible witness to a murder that occurred late Saturday evening.

Deputies are looking for three men wanted in the deadly shooting a security guard at a local night club.

County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as 42-year-old Jimmy Moti of West Columbia.

Sheriff's deputies say Moti worked as a security guard at the El Toro Club on St. Andrews Road. Deputies say at about 11:30 Saturday night, Moti denied three men access to the club when he questioned the validity of one of their ID's.

Deputies say as the men were leaving, they shot Moti.

He was taken to Palmetto Health Richland where the coroner says he died in surgery two hours later. An autopsy conducted Sunday shows Moti died from complications of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Lott said surveillance video from an area business captured a man investigators would like to speak to about the murder. Investigators say he may have valuable information about what happened and who is responsible.

The Richland County Sheriffs Department continues to investigate. They say the men took off in a black, older model Mercury Marquis.

If you know anything that can help deputies with the investigation, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
