MONTCLAIR, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Connecticut man who was shot and killed in Montclair, N.J. Sunday night was “targeted,” according to authorities.

Police found 21-year-old Brian Schiavetti of Ridgefield, Conn., in a first-floor hallway of an apartment building on 25 William Street at around 6:30 p.m. July 22.
He had been shot multiple times, according to police.
Schiavetti was scheduled to graduate Villanova University in 2013, and was working as an intern at Thompson Reuters, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Schiavetti graduated from Ridgefield High School in 2009, where he was an honor student, and was commended for achievement in advanced placement classes, according to the Ridgefield Press.

The 21-year-old man charged with fatally shooting a business school student in a Montclair apartment last week pleaded not guilty this morning to murder and robbery charges.
Ernest Williams Jr., 21, made a brief appearance in Superior Court in Newark, to answer charges he shot and killed Villanova business school student Brian Schiavetti on the evening of July 22, inside a three-story apartment building on Williams Street. He was arrested on Friday.
Williams’ attorney, John McMahon, entered the not guilty plea. Williams, of Montclair, appeared in a blue button down shirt but handcuffed, and did not speak. Bail was continued at $750,000, and he was returned to Essex County jail.
The circumstances of the killing remain unclear and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has refused to say what Schiavetti was doing at the location or what authorities believe Williams stole from the 21-year-old Connecticut resident.
Schiavetti was working as a summer intern at Thompson Reuters in Manhattan, and it was not known where he had been living at the time.
