LOCAL COMMISSIONER INVOLVED IN HOMOSEXUAL SCANDALEven some of Scott Lee's liberal friends are at this writing distancing themselves from him over the shocking allegations that Lee, a Clatsop County Commissioner, Chairman of the Lower Columbia Diversity Project as well as an SPLC contact for N.W Oregon, has been providing a safe house for closeted homosexuals to engage in homosexual acts. Lee himself is not gay but is well known for his radical views.
While all men involved in the scandal that are known to the police are of legal age as far as anyone knows, this reflects extremely poorly on the Clatsop County Commissioner's political office, located in the County seat of Astoria, Oregon, as well as to customers of his Bicycle Shop, called "Bicycle Paradise". At this writing there have been calls for his resignation from some voters over the scandal which Lee and his friends on the 'Diversity Project' view as "compassionate acts" for closeted homosexual men.
In a letter written to the local paper after the scandal broke, Lee explains how everything transpired. "I kept seeing solicitations for homosexual sex written in bathrooms across Astoria. I thought to myself that anyone writing this graffiti must not be 'out of the closet' gay men. And thinking of the potential for disease as well as the embarrassment this could possibly cause to men with local families, I decided, after consulting with my partner Jennifer, that we would provide a meeting place for these individuals until they were prepared to come out as gay men. I began writing replies in various bathroom stalls with my phone number, and before long men were meeting at our house with our permission. It was an act of compassion for these men and no laws were broken. Anyone that says otherwise is a hater and intolerant".
As one would expect, the constant flow of men in and out of his house on Evergreen and College St. aroused the suspicions of his elderly neighbors who eventually called the Astoria Police, who in turn began to watch the house regularly over the period of a month-long investigation, suspecting that drugs were being dealt out of the house. After logging one particularly busy day where nine pairs of men entered and left his residence, this was sufficient enough evidence for a Clatsop County Judge to issue a search warrant.
Last Saturday evening at 9:00 PM, after another pair in a long string of men were observed entering his residence, the Astoria Police along with Deputies from the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, kicked in the door of his home on Evergreen street and briefly cuffed and detained both Lee and his partner Jennifer Stokes. A search of the home revealed no drugs, paraphernalia or money, but when the basement was checked they found two men so engrossed in sex that they had not heard the commotion upstairs.
Both men were found to be of legal age, not in possesion of any illegal items, then questioned and released. Their names have been withheld. However, what was found in Lee's basement has been released in an eyebrow-raising preliminary report. The inventory includes piles of condoms, anal-lube, flavored lubricants, surgical gloves, baby wipes, disposable hand towels, assorted dildos, hand sanitizer, mouth wash and a red hazmat waste basket filled with numerous used items.
Commissioner Lee and Stokes were not arrested and are not expected to. Unless a witness comes forward, which is unlikely, stating that money changed hands, no laws appear to have been broken. "It is not a punishable offense in any U.S. State to allow people to use your home for homosexual liaisons, regardless of the number, as long as money is not exchanged", according to Clatsop County District Attorney Dick Shale.
Because of the scandal, Lee has actually received accolades from the local homosexual community as well as high-profile organizations such as GLAAD, PFLAG, GLSEN and NAMBLA, all of whom have stated that they will come to Astoria and riot if Lee is put on trial for his homosexual activism. Even his association with Alabama's Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) located in Montgomery appears not to be strained. While they are known to be aware of the ongoing troubles with Lee, he is still on their list of trusted informants for both their "Hate Watch" and "Intelligence Project" programs. Phone calls to both Mark Potok and Morris Dees, co-heads at the SPLC were not returned.
Aside from his letter to the local paper, Lee has not commented further and is still at his job as one of the Clatsop County Commissioners, Chairing his Diversity Project and running his bicycle shop. For his part in what is now being called the 'In the closet scandal' Lee has retained a lawyer in the event this goes to court.
Lee is up for reelection in 2014.
